Nuffield Australia 2010 scholarship winner

Vegetable producer Steven Newman receives the 2010 Nuffield Scholarship supported by Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL) using the vegetable levy and matched funds from the Australian Government to study automation and soil management.

Steven is production manager for Hills Fresh, a family-owned intensive vegetable farming business he runs with his father in the Adelaide Hills. They produce cauliflower, lettuce and leek on 25ha of irrigated land, which is largely for domestic markets. They also graze cattle on another 68ha.

Steven plans to visit the US and Netherlands to research best practice in labour saving technologies and soil management for better yields.
