I am near Cedar Rapids IOWA, USA tonight about to travel to the Louisville KENTUCKY National Farm Machinery Show!My travels so far have taken me to Bakersfield, Fresno, Tulare and San Louis Obispo in CALIFORNIA and to Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Johnston and De Moine in IOWA. Have visited Grimway Farming, John Deere, Pioneer Seeds and met with many farmers, consultants, advisers, businessmen, family and friends with barely time to reflect on a first amazing 10 days of Nuffield travel! Already I have uncovered some ideas to persue relating to my topic of study on trace element nutrition. I will be in Kentucky from Wed 11th to Sun FEB 15th and then ARIZONA between FEB 15 to 22nd when I fly to BELGIUM where I will be until SAT FEB 28th when I hit LONDON! Looking forward to seeing the other 09 scholars in the UK at the end of the month

G’day,

I am back on Australian soils, another update of my Nuffield travels is due. In the past six odd months I’ve covered 16 different countries, been on over 70  flights (chartered that is!) and able to build a very solid foundation for knowledge and opportunities into the future.

Travelling began in June when a great dynamic of ‘food producers’ of wheat, cheese, oysters, wine grapes, apples, celery, milk, sheep and importantly beef.  (and all sorts of other titles too long to mention!) set off on our pre arranged six week global focus whirl of the world including NZ, Ireland, France, US, China and Philippines. Made it!

Well I am on my way home now.  I have been in South Africa for nearly a week, most of that time near Cape Town.  I will get back home on the weekend, after spending nearly 17 weeks travelling the world.  In that time I have flown around the world twice and done nearly 65,000 air miles.  I have stayed in around 50 different hotels.  (more…)

I’ve just had a great day with legendary low stress livestock handler “Bud Williams & his wife Eunice”, who also have extremely sharp marketing minds. He says the two things that most cattle producers focus on from a marketing viewpoint ‘is weight gain and market price. And both are irrelevant, and may have nothing to do with whether the sale is really profitable. (more…)
